Overview
Research has been an integral element for higher education at Sharda University since the time of its inception. The Research Development Cell at Sharda provides a vigorous and highly visible research environment to its students with an objective to research culture and develop the habit of leadership within the university. The cell supports all kinds of scholarly activities like fundamental research, applied research and development contract research for government, non-government and international agencies.
Over the years the research efforts have expanded to include sponsored research and consultancy projects in multiple disciplines like in the field of Science, Engineering, Technology and Management.
The University continues to branch out its research vision with new faculty members/researchers and implementing new policies designed to improve the research infrastructure and also through new academic & industry collaborations. The University with their researchers and other teams continues to regularly welcome external partners who support our vision by sharing ideas, pooling resources, and collaborating on findings promoting innovative research.

Dr. Bhuvnesh Kumar, Distinguished Professor & Dean Research at Sharda University since November 2020, is an alumnus of GB Pant University, where he earned his Graduate, Postgraduate, and Doctorate degrees in Veterinary Medicine. He served DRDO for over 35 years, joining as Scientist B in 1985 and retiring in August 2020 as an Outstanding Scientist and Director, Defence Institute of Physiology & Allied Sciences (DIPAS), New Delhi.
Throughout his career, he held key positions, including Director of DIHAR (Leh) and additional charge of DIBER (Haldwani) and INMAS (Delhi). His work focused on improving high-altitude habitability for troops, rapid acclimatization, and food security in extreme conditions. He played a crucial role in establishing the world’s highest terrestrial research station at Chang La (Leh) at 17,664 ft, earning a Guinness World Record for DRDO in 2016.
Dr. Kumar has published over 130 research papers, filed multiple patents, and transferred several technologies to industries under the "Make in India" initiative. At DIPAS, he led the development of oxygen-enriched shelters, climate simulation facilities, and innovative solutions for COVID-19, including RT-PCR testing and UVC-based disinfection devices.
A University Merit Holder, he has received numerous accolades, including a commendation from Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, the Agni Award for excellence in self-reliance, and the Laboratory Scientist of the Year award. Currently, at Sharda University, he is committed to advancing quality research under the New Education Policy of the Government of India.
